Golf Office Pool Idea To Tide Us Over

May 3, 2010

With the Kentucky Derby over and the NBA the middle of the playoffs, finding opportunities to put on an office pool will become more difficult until we get closer to the 2010 World Cup. Until then we need to find special events that can provide some excitement. That is where the Players Championship comes in. This tournament, played in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, has a purse of over 9 million dollars and is one of the bigger on the tour. With little work, you could put an office pool together that will last from Thursday to Sunday.

Here is how to put together an office pool for Players Championship:

Group Size: Any

1) Each participant drafts 6 golfers and an entry fee is determined.

2) 4  of the 6 golfers will used for each participant’s total score.

3) Scoring:

  • Total strokes under par for each participant’s golfers (not total strokes)
  • Ie…if I have Tiger, Els, Kim and Garcia on my team and they are 6 under, 3 under, 1 under and 2 over par respectively, then I would add then together to get 8 under par (10 under plus 2 over).
  • Must have 4 golfers make the cut to win the main pot

4) An easy excel spreadsheet can be created to track the scores.

5) Payout:

  • Main Pot = Best total under par for 4 golfers
  • Secondary Pot = Winner of the tournament

Optional Payouts

  • Most birdies
  • Lowest total after each round
  • Lowest golfer after each round

Try it out and let me know if you have any other ideas on golf office pools.
